Covkartsport was founded in 1996 by Nick Staveley Stanley MBE. Nick identified a gap in the market for a well organised, low-cost, multi-circuit arrive and drive Championship. Nick used his experience he had encountered in many different motor racing events to develop Covkartsport.
Covkartsport has provided numerous drivers the opportunity to race at a competitive level, and also gain experience for those who had not raced within a championship previously. Covkartsport has also helped people to progress into higher forms of motorsport, such as Formula Vee and the Clio Cup.
Due to the hard work and dedication, Covkartsport President, Nick Staveley Stanley became the first person, from the kart racing community to be awarded an MBE for Services to Motorsport. This shows how successful Covkartsport has been over the years.
The success of Covkartsport today is due to the support of the members, the depth of the competition and the volunteers.
Royal Honour - MBE Award for Nick Staveley-Stanley
In 2013 the founder and President of COVKARTSPORT, Nicholas Staveley Stanley, was appointed, by HM the Queen, to Membership of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for Services to Motorsport, based solely upon what Nick has achieved for COVKARTSPORT and its members since it was established in 1996. Nick is the only person from the karting community, in the many years of kart-racing history, to ever receive HM the Queen's Honour for Services to Motorsport.
This can be seen as a brilliant vindication of the way COVKARTSPORT is run and what the club represents. The kudos and credibility, that come with this Queen's Honour, must be shared by all of COVKARTSPORT's Organisers and members, both past and present) as, without their support, this MBE could never have been achieved.
Nick received his Honour at the same time that Christian Horner, the boss of the Red Bull F1 Racing team, received his. Two men receiving a Queen's Honour - at polar opposites of the motorsport world. Never-the-less, two men who have been formally recognised for their quite different and valuable contributions to motorsport.
In case you are wondering exactly why Nick has received the MBE, his nomination was assessed against 11 key criteria including a measure of how many people have benefitted from the club (between 500 and 1000) , the continuing benefit of the club to its members, its longevity and its local charity support. It is these facts that convinced the Honours Committee to make the recommendation of the MBE along with the many supporting letters sent to the Cabinet Office by the membership.
Nick would like to sincerely thank both Paul Cox (F4 Racing Driver & Instructor) and Professor Steve Thornton who is both the Patron of COVKARTSPORT and the Dean of Exeter University Medical School for nominating him. Nick would also like to thank his wife (for always tolerating the trials and tribulations of COVKARTSPORT) and the many members who sent the Cabinet Office letters of support.
What the media had to say:
Nick was featured in all forms of media including TV. Below is a selection of quotations from a few of the published news-features that also included a lot of information about COVKARTSPORT.
